Research Study Americans Want Greater Security Measures To Be Taken

New York, November 12,
2001:
According to a new study released
today, Americans overwhelmingly prefer that security guards at airports,
train stations, bus stations, etc. be federal employees rather than being
hired through private security companies.

Respondents were asked a second
question about how strongly they agree or disagree with the statement:
"I think the United States should have a national security identification
card for each citizen." Exactly half (50%) agreed with this statement
(20% strongly.) One-third (34%) disagreed and 16% neither agreed nor disagreed.
Results are consistent across
both questions for sex, age and marital status. However, those in the
Northeast were most likely to prefer federal employees and to want a national
security identification card.
Percentages are accurate at the 95% confidence level within ± 1.5%.
Methodology:
The
survey was conducted on the Internet utilizing the Beta Research Consumer
Database. There were 4,310 respondents over the weekend of November 10th
and 11th. The survey, scheduled to run through the evening of November 12th,
was terminated upon learning of the American Airlines crash Monday morning.
This
survey is a joint venture of McPheters & Company, Inc. and Beta Research.
